Strategic Initiatives Fellowships

Program Description
The goal of the Strategic Initiatives fellowship program is to provide an opportunity for graduate students, under the direction of a faculty member, to develop and submit a proposal. Individual graduate students may submit a proposal for one award related to any of the following Graduate School strategic plan goals:
  • attracting external and internal sources of funding;
  • enhancing recruitment and retention of graduate students to increase the number, quality, and diversity of the graduate student body;
  • emphasizing mentoring relationships between faculty and students;
  • fostering interdisciplinary graduate education; or
  • improving services to enhance the quality of life for graduate students.


  • Proposals
    Completed proposals should be 3-5 pages in length and must include the following information:
  • Strategic Initiatives application form (available at http://www.purdue.edu/GradSchool/specialinitiatives );
  • abstract and program rationale, citing relevant research;
  • program description, objectives, and method of evaluation;
  • proposed budget (limit of $1500); and
  • statement of endorsement from the major professor or faculty advisor.
  • Submit completed proposals electronically to fellowships@purdue.edu no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2005 .

    Evaluations
    Proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:
  • contribution to identified initiative;
  • quality of proposal content;
  • conceptually strong foundation;
  • adherence to proposal submission guidelines;
  • endorsement of faculty member.


  • Award
    The tenure of the award is one year, and the Graduate School provides:
  • Stipend 1
  • Tuition scholarships
  • Medical insurance supplement
  • Technology fee
  • 1 The minimum stipend level is $14,000; however, the academic program determines the actual stipend level.

    Requirements:
    Recipients must:
  • be admitted to Purdue in a degree-granting program as a doctoral-seeking student;
  • maintain a valid e-mail address with the Fellowship Office;
  • submit an annual Academic Progress Report;
  • enroll for at least nine credits in the fall & spring sessions and enroll for at least six credits during the summer session. Fellows who are not registered during the summer session will not receive a stipend in May, June, and July.
